The key is that it has to be something that motivates your child but it should
not be anything extravagant. Try holding off on something that your child normally
enjoys doing/having and then reintroduce it as way of a reward.

Rewards Inspirations- Positive Reinforcement

Material Rewards

Those include all those things that usually cost money, such as toys, CDs, clothes, outings, food, and money itself. Included in this category are also special privileges,
such as time on computer, being allowed to watch a video or television show. However if you get into the habit of always using material rewards, it may become very costly. Material rewards all the time will end up bigger demands from our children. Only use them when you feel its appropriate and make the reward in proportion to the task.

Social Rewards

These include your approval and attention. ( Hugs, kisses, words of praise, encouragement,
taking the time to notice that your child has done, using body language such as
your tone of voice or a smile, to show your child that you are pleased).

Those are the most powerful rewards. Use these rewards often. Especially when your child
is young, as they get older, material rewards become more appealing and behavior
become more difficult to change.

Intrinsic Rewards

These rewards are the satisfying feelings you child gets when he/she has done something right or well. They are not dependent on anyone else’s approval. You just feel good inside. Parents need to aim for intrinsic motivation in children. It’s a great
feeling for your kids to want to do the right things.

It may depend on the child’s age, personality, and physical and emotional development.
Normal, or appropriate, behavior is usually determined by whether it is socially,
culturally and developmentally appropriate. Knowing what to expect from your child
at each age will help you decide whether his or her behavior is normal.

Generally children tend to continue a behavior when it has a pleasant consequence attached to it or it is rewarded, and stop a behavior when it is ignored.

Some problems are short-lived and are appropriate to the stage of development of the
child. You may need to be a little flexible. For example there is a limit to how
early a child can be taught how to use a toilet or dress him or herself.

You can stop insignificant but annoying behaviors by ignoring them and Introducing
new preferable behaviors and then reinforcing or rewarding your child.

More fun and less stress as a family

All over the world parents are tearing their hair out about their children’s oppositional and defiant behaviors – kids who throw temper tantrums, sass back at their parents, beat up their siblings, refuse to do as they are told and want everything now. Many of these parents feel quite hopeless. They have read parenting books, tried different parenting advice, and yet their kids just seem to get worse instead of better. Maybe you have felt like that at times too?

It is possible to turn a child from a disruptive nuisance to a cooperative and happy young person in a single afternoon. Now there is no such thing as a magic wand and it will take a little effort from you, the results are worth it. Shouting, threatening, tantrums, and all the other behavior problems will decrease, and the helpful, polite, and good behaviors will increase. Parenting, and life, will start to become fun again.

The principles are very basic and simple and can be learned by anyone, and used in any family situation, with any type of problem behavior. These techniques are so powerful that 100% of parents who have used them have seen a dramatic improvement in their child’s behaviors.

These techniques do work. There is no question about that. But you have to use them properly. Remember it’s about good parenting not magic. You do have to do some things differently if you want the change. Fortunately we are talking about a relatively small amount of effort on your part. It’s a powerful technique that will eliminate whining, temper tantrums, and other annoying behaviors. Use this at home, at your friend’s, even when out shopping. It works like magic.

This is an article shared by Matt Barnes , lovingfather of two toddlers, who enjoys the dynamics of child rearing and the challenges it brings!

These are my top three tips for dealing with a mis-behaving and difficult child. By using these tips, you will eliminate the frustration and many challenges a mis-behaving child presents us with. And both your nerves and your child will be a lot happier, too!

~Your Childs Diet will have a significant impact on their behavioral patterns!

Sugar can transform a child. It can turn the happy go lucky, even tempered and obedient child into a troubled, whining, and irritable nightmare. Many parents, although they know that sugar has a negative impact on their childs behavior, continue to feed this outcome by allowing their children to drink undiluted juices full of sugar, and give into their demands to eat snacks such as cookies, candy, and other sweets.

Research points out that children with a poor diets are more likely to become tempermental and non social. Research from the University of Southern California found a lack of zinc, iron, vitamin B and protein in the first three years is a precursure to bad behavior later on.

~Exercise is another key to a healthy and happy child!

Children have endless amounts of energy that will result in restlessness when harnessed. They are more coordinated than the average adult; they want to climb, jump, and run whenever possible.

They just love being active and adventurous! Aerobic exercise, is a key intregal part of healthy child development. The California Department of Education found that those children who are regularly exposed to aerobic exercise, have higher test scores in school than those who do not participate in aerobic exercise consistantly.

“Charles Hillman of the University of Illinois also related aerobic capacity to better attention, working memory and processing speed. This is because aerobic exercises improve the delivery of oxygen in the body, including the brain, which helps it function better.”

~If you want your child to be happy and well behaved you need to treat them with love and respect.

Your child is in tune to whatever is going on around them. What your child see’s and how your child gets treated, they will duplicate this behavior. If your frustrations are heaped on your child and you do not treat them with love and respect it will come back to you in the form of misbehavior.

Children are like a sponge, they absorb everything around them rapidly. What they see and hear on a daily basis is what will be duplicated by our children. So if you want your children to be kind, we need to be kind to others. If we want our children to listen and be respectful we need to listen and be respectful ourselves. Lead by example don’t tell them to act a certian way and you do the opposite. Don’t wait until your childs behavior gets progressively worse take action today. Lead the right way!

Of course, utilizing and putting into action these three tips are just the beginning to Great Behavior in a Mis-Behaving Child and a better relationship with your child!

In summary:

~Keep as much sugar products out of your child’s diet as much as possible.

~Make sure they are active, and get to excercise regularly.

~Your child wants to be loved and respected just like you.
